An Enthusiast’s Abbreviated Guide to Opera

The Academy of Music and Balfe/Somers Wealth Management of RBC Dominion Securities are pleased to host an informal evening with John Silver entitled An Enthusiast’s Abbreviated Guide to Opera on Wednesday, November 28 at the Academy Concert Hall. The evening commences at 6:00pm and John’s talk will be 6:30 – 8:00 pm.

For his presentation, John will be drawing from his recent series of lectures to Malaspina University College’s Elder College which included discussion illustrated by opera excerpts from DVD and CD.

Coffee and deserts are sponsored by Balfe/Somers Wealth Management of RBC Dominion Securities.

There is no charge for this event but, if you are able to attend, please RSVP to Opera Lecture with the number of guests.

The evening is a prelude to an exciting new addition to Powell River’s musical scene - Live opera broadcasts from New York’s Metropolitan Opera, with English subtitles, to be shown in High Definition at the Max Cameron Theatre.

The project is the brainchild of John, who is host of JUMP Radio’s The Opera Hour, and Jacquie Dawson, Manager of Max Cameron Theatre. The Academy of Music has been delighted to support their efforts with publicity and ticketing.

The first opera is Gounod’s beautiful Roméo et Juliette with the amazing Anna Netrebko as Juliette. Plácido Domingo is the conductor. This will be shown on December 15, 2007 at 10:00 am. Seven other operas will be shown between January and May 2008.

Advance tickets for the operas are available in person at the Academy Box Office or by calling 604.485.9633. Day of performance tickets will be available at Max Cameron Theatre.
